The Ambassadeur Beast does not use this new concept in drag engineering (yet). Also, in addition to being larger they are built inside differently. The Revo Beast is a "200" size reel whereas the Toro Beast comes in a 50 and 60 size which are "300" and "350" size reels. I may have used the abbreviation "Beast" when talking about this reel but they are actually different. I am using other literature as my source and the numbers I report are consistent with my spooling experience. You may have it mixed up with the Revo Beast the smaller top shelf reel from last year whereas the reel we are looking at here is the Revo Toro Beast which is brand new this year (not yet in stores) and incorporates the new drag engineering. What you posted was top notch I just wanted to make sure. I realize you are the messenger, and you have my respect, which don't come easy. The 6500 round beast doesn't have the drag upgrade? Really? The ABU site listed it at 220 of 12# mono and 180 of 30# braid. Best fish I have seen report/photos of being landed is a 125# BFT on a Lexa 400. The reels in the 3-400 size can kinda do it all until the fish start getting consistently over 40lbs (very generally speaking). The Komodo with all stainless gears will have that going for it, the Lexa 400 is still the capacity king (when every bit counts) among the main related group, Curado is just kinda "there" to me but it certainly has it's fans and the Tranx is really it's own thing.more specialized imo, due to its large size for larger fish/heavier line or closer to the bottom to snub fish near structure. If I had to fish one it would be hard to decide but the Toro Beast is probably the sweetest (so far). Smoother and more features/detailing as the price reflects (dual forms of cast control, 3 handles etc).īut, between the Toro Beast, Curado 300EJ, Lexa 3-400 and Komodo there is a lot to love in each of them and they all have impressive catches to their credit (Tuna over 100lbs or big Jacks). So to the last question I would say in terms of refinement the Toro Beast appears to be in a class of it's own. The Revo Toro NaCl is now discontinued and replaced by the Toro Beast and Toro S. I grease my washers but am willing to give it a go Abu style to test them out.ĥ. Abu supplies the washers dry, but they are fine with greasing them. It looks a little weird because it has some clear grease on it:Ĥ. I just didn't show it as it is so commonly found. There is a back up dog on this reel like all others similarly do. Despite the reel being rated at 25lbs max drag (it may well do that locked down) reality on most of these is they fish 10-12lbs smoothly and are good for 40-50# leaders etc.ģ. The Tranx (20 oz) may be an outlier due to its size. The frame is one piece and appears as rigid as others in this class (Curado, Lexa and Komodo all ~11-13oz reels). This reel is absolutely in the same class as anything out there.Ģ. The only knock on the Tranx I have ever heard is that it is a bit too large in the hand for the common catch in West Coast waters.

The Tranx is *very* popular among those that have taken the plunge and are fishing them for any number of applications. What other reels would you put, generically, in the same class as the new Revo Toro Beast?ġ. Do the Abu engineers think that this mechanically distinct arrangement can be trusted, with big saltwater fish, without any dog arrangement?Ĥ) Are the drag washers meant to be used wet or dry?ĥ) Will this replace any of the prior Toros, of which there seem to be a small herd? However it's done, is the frame rigid enough to maintain gear alignment? Is it a one-piece frame?ģ) One-way anti-reverse bearings fail often enough, from overlubrication or otherwise, that Accurate had to incorporate dogs as well as a bearing in some model lines. (I haven't seen a lot of user reports, though.) Is the reel fairly compared to the Tranx and K364?Ģ) Stuffing mid- to heavyweight braid on a small reel puts a lot of strain on the entire mechanism. Alan Tani had some design reservations about the Tranx but such user reports as I've seen are favorable. As time on the water accumulates, perhaps we can have your thoughts on the following questions.ġ) This reel, the Komodo 364 and perhaps others are presumably meant to compete with the Tranx, which does seem to be liked by the people who use it. As nice a preview and design study as we could hope to receive.
